Friday's Fancies :: Labor Day

Labor Day

Sandals / ToteWatch / Sunglasses / Sun Care / Dress

 I can't believe summer is coming to an end. Before I know it, snow will be on the ground in Tahoe.

This weekend N and I  have a few fun options -- Heavenly Labor Day tent sale, Sample the Sierra, Reno Rib Cook Off and a few bbq's with friends. We'll probably even work in a hike, mountain bike ride and some beach time into the weekend.

As for what to wear, I put together an easy breezy outfit perfect for Sample the Sierra or any Labor Day bbq. A flowy dress, shopper and sunscreen are a must this weekend for me.

What are your weekend plans?

Wedding Weekend Part One - The Bridal Shower

Since the majority of our guests were from out of town (San Diego, South Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey etc. ) we planned the bridal shower the Friday before the wedding. My mom, step-mom Sue and sister went to town decorating my front yard. The boys were even enlisted to help string some lanterns between the trees -- before heading out to play disc-golf.

Roxy scooping out the party.
The week leading up to the wedding Tahoe was experiencing crazy thunder and lighting storms. Just our luck another one rolled in Friday. It rained a tad before guests arrived, but we were able to enjoy lunch outside before it really picked up. I've never seen a group of women break down an event so quickly before that day. After lunch we moved the party inside, played a few fun games and socialized. I enjoyed every minute of it!

 Top Row:
Nick & I before guests were about to arrive.; The boys enjoying a cold beer and the bridal party set up; Cara and I

Middle Row:
Food table pre-party

Bottom Row:
Yard Shot; Decor on the food table; Me!; Table decor & sneak peak of what you'll see at the wedding.

The centerpieces were DIY'd by yours truly, while my crafty mom arranged everything from floral arrangements to layout -- she even burnt the birdhouse!

Thank you to all who made it to Tahoe & the bridal shower!

Hiking Lake Tahoe - Van Sickle Bi-State Park

Last week was jammed packed with the wedding aftermath and family and friends in Tahoe. We loved every minute of it, don't get me wrong. But when Sunday rolled around we enjoyed a lazy morning with coffee, HGTV and the couch before heading out for a little hike around 11 a.m. Since I haven't officially checked out Van Sickle Bi-State Park (although yes we snowboard through it during winter months) we headed to the state-line to enjoy a short hike.

The first big set of boulders to your right is a great place to take in a view.  It's probably 5- 10 minutes into the trail. Yes, I had to jump!

Roxy even enjoyed the view, but too busy hunting to look at the camera.

Burn area from the 2005 Gondola Fire.
If you frequent Heavenly and have experienced firebreak this might look a little familiar.

Of course we hiked back to a little creek for Roxy to cool off. You wouldn't know that this short-hair runs HOT.

It's the end of August and the water is still flowing!

This is one happy pup!

Shhhh.... I might have picked up a few Sugar Pine pine-cones for the house.

Hiking Van Sickle might not be challenging, but it's perfect for an easy Sunday hike or visitors looking for a little wilderness and an amazing view of the lake.

Note: The trail is shared with mountain bikers

Friday's Fancies :: Summer Road Trip

Summer Road Trip

TopShortsSandalsShopper EarringsSunglasses / ScrafLip Gloss

Nothing beats a summer road trip whether it's to the mountains, wine country or beach. Here are a few of my summer travel picks.

Living in a dryer climate I love a good exfoliating lip scrub during the summer not to mention it's perfect all year long. Shorts, a flowy top and sandals make this girl happy. I can’t travel without a lightweight scarf either. Add some fun aviators and a massive shopper and you're ready to hit the road.

What are a few things you can't travel without?

Friday's Fancies :: Summer Sunset

Summer is by far my favortie season. I love everything about it. Cold drinks, colorful dresses, sandals, long days and anything that involves the beach. My sister wore this Splendid dress to my  bachlorette party and I've loved it ever since. Pair it with great sandals, simple jewelry and big sunglasses for a fun summer outing.

How would you dress up or down this summer staple?

Friday's Fancies :: Gingham-Gorg

Top / JeansBallet Flat / WatchNecklaceLip ColorPerfume

Thank you for the sweet comments regarding wearing a veil or flower. I think I've made a decision. This week I'm keeping Friday's Fancies pretty simple and casual. While I was putting this outfit together it made me think about all the fun things fall brings. Maybe this year I'll go apple picking. I can't wait for changing of the colors and having a reason to buy new boots.

So about this week's gingham picks -- The boyfriend top is the party, but what I'm really loving is the simplicity of the initial necklace, brown flats and bracelet like watch. Every women should have a great pair or two of amazing skinny jeans. I personally like a dark wash because they give you a slimming look, plus jeans always fade over time.

What are you loving this week?

Wedding Wednesday's :: Veil or Flower?

11 DAYS! It hit me like a stack of bricks last night. I seriously didn't fall a sleep until one a.m. That never happens. Today's burning question is go traditional and wear a veil or keep it modern with a flower?

Weekend Love

As we continue to narrow in on the 19th it seems as though we create more and more (house) work for ourselves, but every once in awhile it's time to cut loose and we did just that this weekend -- bikes, bbq's, music on the beach and good friends! Here's our weekend recap through my iphone....

If you follow me on instagram @Tiara_Wasner you might have seen this picture of me and my sweet 1948 Firestone Beach Crusier.

We kicked of the weekend early on Thursday with a bike ride down to the new Lakeview Commons area for the weekly concert.

After a Friday lunch meeting at MontBleu Casino & Resort I headed to the Hot August Nights Car Show to work on some "Social Media."

Friday Night Nick and I checked out the new Blue Dog "Midtown" pizza place located just a few block from the house... and yes we road bikes! As always, the pizza was delish.

Saturday we worked on the house and our friends Jenn & Nick (from SF) came over for a little BBQ.

Since Jenn & Nick relaxed on Baldwin Beach on Saturday I decided to show them a little Tahoe hidden gem, Angora Lake. We packed up the car with plenty of treats and Roxy and made our way to the little Alpine Lake.

Roxy swam for two hours straight! Let's just say this little dog will sleep for a day or two now.

We watched brave souls jump off the cliffs in the distance, basked in the sun, enjoyed our picnic lunch and reminisced about old times.

I've know these two (Jenn & Nick) for nearly 10 years! Here's to another 10+ years.. love you guys! Let's do it again in two weeks!

Friday's Fancies :: T-Shirt Time

T-Shirt Time

 Polka Dot TopSkinny JeansBallet Shoes / WatchEarringsSunglassesLip Gloss

Good Morning and Happy Friday! I'm now 16 days out from the BIG day!
It still hasn't hit me.

It's t-shirt time this week and tee's are major staple in my closet. I love wearing fun tee's like the Polka Dot Splendid top above for a lunch date with the girls or Friday at the office. I would pair it with white skinny jeans, TOMS Ballet flats and fun jewelery. I'm loving these River Island bird earrings and for only $2.34, what a bargain! This outfit wouldn't be complete without red lips from Nars.

How would you wear this polka dot shirt?

Wedding Wednesday's :: DIY Cupcake Stand

Well we've been busy bees again working on the house and DIYing for the wedding. Remember when I blogged about DIY details here, well the tiered cupcake stand is done!

The vision:
Here’s how it all went down...

Those who know us well know we have a plethora of wood rounds drying in our backyard at all times. With that said, we headed out to the yard and picked out what we thought were the best looking rounds.

Nick then went to town cutting the rounds into smaller 1" to 3" thick rounds with his trusty chainsaw.
 (Tip: Safety first make sure you have the correct protective gear on -- eye-ware, ear plugs, chaps and footwear)

 Once Nick cut about 10 -13 new rounds I gave them a light sanding, but left them looking natural.

Since we didn't want a lacquer finish we only applied one light coat of tung oil.

Here's what they looked like after one coat. (not completely dry)

Next we picked 3 different size rounds to create a tiered look.

Using an aspen branch and chop-saw Nick made some "legs" for height.

Once the legs were cut we placed them between the rounds, made some marks and started drilling pilot holes for screws.

After about 3-4 hours (including dry time) our rustic DYI cupcake stand looked a little like this! Since we already had everything it cost us $0 and little hard work and determination.

We can't wait to see what it looks like covered with cupcakes in only 18 days! I can't believe it. The plan is to use the remaining rounds as centerpiece stands. Did you DYI anything for your big day?
