Merry Christmas to You!

Merry Christmas!

'Tis the season to spend time with family and friends, eat chocolate without feeling guilty and reminisce about what a fantastic year it's been!

 If I could, I would send a card to each and every one of you - but for now this version will have to do!

Top to bottom: WPR Christmas Party, One Year anniversary dinner at Edgewood Tahoe, Roxy,
Garden of Gods - Colorado Springs, CO

This year we decided to order our cards from Minted. I'm so happy with the way they turned out. The quality is exactly what I expected and it's extremely easy to navigate their website. The best part, our cards arrived in two days. This was key since we were a little behind this season.

Of course I really wanted to take a "Tahoe" Christmas photo, but life just got away from us. I ended up choosing a design to highlight multiple photos from the year. I couldn't be happier.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you who read this blog. It means the world to me that you stop by to see what we're up to.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

My First Stitch Fix

It's official, I'm hooked on Stitch Fix.

After months of debating I finally broke down and signed up for my first fix. I'm now wondering why I didn't give it a try earlier! So how does it work? It's extremely easy -- sign up, complete your style profile, pick a date to receive your fix, try on your fix in the comfort of your home and send back the items you don't want. Oh, I left out the part that you have a personal stylist shopping for you! My stylist nailed my style and I wish I could keep everything.

Ok, let's get this party started and see what was in my fix!

Bella Boutique Joy Sterling Double Strand Necklace {$48}
I usually keep jewelry simple so this double strand circle necklace is perfect. I could wear it to the office or with a tee and jeans. Funny thing, I actually already own a necklace just like this! Status: Sent back

Fate Albright Distressed Knit Sweater {$68}
Living in Lake Tahoe I wear a lot of sweaters. This sweater is perfect for layering. The stylist suggested I pair it with flats/riding boots and skinny jeans for a casual look. I might even rock it at the office with black ankle pants, flats and simple necklace. I like that it's different and something I probably would have never picked out for myself. Status: Kept

Three Dots Gwendolen V-Back Knit Shirt {$58}
The hubby always jokes that my weekend "uniform" is a v-neck, skinny jeans, boots and sweater. Well, the Three Dots shirt fits right into the mix. Sorry I spaced and didn't take a photo of the back.It's super cute and I loved the way it fit, but I couldn't justified spending that much on a tee right now. Status: Sent back

41Hawthorn Benson Striped 3/4 Ruched Sleeve Blazer {$78}
I might have squealed when I pulled this blazer out of the box. I'm a stripes person I know everyone isn't. This blazer is amazing and was almost a perfect fit. Unfortunately it was just a tad too tight in the shoulders. I'm blaming the small amount of shoulder padding. The stylist suggested I pair it with jeans and a tee or blouse and pencil skirt. Status: Sent back

Kut From The Kloth - Denna Dark Wash Skinny Jean {$78}
If you were wondering about the skinny jeans above well look no further they were also apart of my fix. I love skinnies and assumed I would keep these as soon as I pulled them out of the box. Well I asked for a size 4 and that's what I received, but they were too big. First it made me feel awesome, then sad because I would have to send them back. They were super soft and stretchy, aka forgiving. Status: Sent back

For those wondering my boots are Sorel's and they're pretty awesome.

That's a wrap. What do you think? What would you have kept?

My next box is scheduled for the end of March and I requested a dress for an upcoming wedding. Fingers crossed I love my next Stitch Fix just as much!

Grandma Jo's Mound Bars

There's just something about your grandmother's cooking and in Nick's case his grandmother's baking. Last Christmas I experienced it first hand. One word -- AMAZING! While we were in Mexico I asked Nick's mom if she could mail me grandma Jo's recipes because I have a few ideas for next year... Well they arrived at our house last week. Needless to say I was busy baking a few over the weekend. I hope you enjoy these as much as we do.

Grandma Jo's Mound Bars

2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups flake coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 oz. butterscotch chips
1 package milk chocolate chips

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

Mix graham cracker crumbs, butter and power sugar in a food processor. Mix well. Press the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake about 10 minutes

Whisk together sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Pour the filling over graham cracker crust, sprinkle coconut and bake 10 to 12 minutes. When edges start to brown take out of oven.

While  is cools melt butterscotch  and milk chocolate chips. Once cool pour the melted chocolaty mixture on top of the coconut layer.

Cool completely in the refrigerator, about 2 hours. Cut into bars.

Our Merry Mantel {2013}

It's starting to look like Christmas at Casa de Meyer.

Over the weekend a little Christmas decorating took place and today I'm sharing our mantel. There's really no theme. I guess you could said I went for the eclectic vibe. The hubby said "Rustic + Red." Either way I'm happy how things turned out.

The mantel itself is a piece of reclaimed wood we rescued from our neighbors yard a few years ago. Last year we installed the wood insert and it's been a great investment. I still love the flesh mount. It just gives the fireplace a nice clean look.

This year I decided to work around the mirror and antler print. I spruced up some garland with red & white ornaments and pine cones from our yard (Mountain living perk). I pulled together the look with  brass candle-holders & white candles on one end and a stick reindeer, I purchased at TJ Maxx last season, on the other end.

Lastly, the stockings. The hubby placed hooks under the mantel for our stockings. If you can't tell the hubby's stocking is from his childhood. I'm pretty sure his grandmother made it!

There you have it, our 2013 mantel. It might not be super fancy, but I love it.

I might be late to the party, but I'm linking up with Ten June and Our Fifth House !

Holiday Stocking Stuffers

Happy Monday!

It was pretty chilly over the weekend. I'm talking a foot plus snow and -14 degrees cold. We spent the weekend shopping, snowboarding, decorating for the holidays, and keeping warm with cozy fires and wine. Oh there might have been a trip to see Santa paws too.

Last week I shared gift guides for her, him and the couple. Today, I'm having fun and sharing stocking stuffer ideas beyond the typical gum, candy and toiletries.

Holiday Stocking Stuffers

Beanie:  Keep his head warm this winter with a fleece lined beanie form The North Face.

SpringGlove: Living in Tahoe and snowboarding as much as we do you need multiples of everything. These are hands down my favorite spring glove.

Bottleopener: Every bar needs a fun bottle opener.

Headlamp: Perfect for the guy in your life who like to get outside.

Multi-Tool: Every guys should have a multi-tool. They come in very handy and it adds just a little something to a stocking.

Cards Against Humanity extension: The guy in your life will love playing this game.
Apron: I don't know about you, but I like to stay clean while I cookie/bake. Why not have a fun apron while you're manning the kitchen.

Winebottle stopper: It's rare that we don't finsh a bottle a wine we open, but for the times you only want one glass these stoppers will come in handy. Plus, they'll add a nice touch to the bar.

Cookie dough scoop: The baker in your life will love you.

Candles: We all love candles there's nothing more to say.

Smartwoolsocks: These are the only socks I will where on the mountain. You can thank me later.

Essie nail polish: Three new reasons for a pedicure: shimmer, gray and winter red.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Couple

After creating his and hers gift guides I figured why not create a “for the couple” guide. Now that I’m married and own a house I find couple gifts to be fun. These items would also be great as a housing warming or wedding present.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Couple

Outdoor Patio Lights: Perfect for the couple who loves to entertain. I’m looking forward to actually completing our backyard next summer and these lights would look amazing.

Outdoor Mat: Who doesn’t love a fun doormat? Ours is just boring black.

Margarita Glasses: You know where my mind is. Maybe it’s the fact we just returned from Mexico. Either way these would come in handy during any backyard fiesta.

Initial Throw Pillow: Nick laughs about pillows and I keep buying them. End of story.

Squirrel Candleholder: How cute is this candleholder? A bird and moose round out the collection.Yes, please! Plus they would work inside and out. Are you starting to see a theme here?

Yellow Bench: Every porch needs a place to sit. The yellow bench would add a pop to any house.

FirePit: S’mores anyone? I like to tell Nick that living in Tahoe is like camping every night. A fire pit would make it even more realistic.

Ampersand: Just a little something to spruce up the mantel, etc.

Molcajete: We’ll need salsa with our margaritas and well why not make it the way they do in Mexico?

Christmas Gifts for Him 2013

Is the man in your life hard to shop for? You’re not alone. I’m sure 4 out of 5 of you said yes. Well this year, like every year, when I asked the hubby for gift ideas his response was "I don’t need anything" followed by more “ice fishing gear.” Since I don’t have a clue about ice fishing I put together a list of other items.

 Maybe Santa will leave a Cabela’s or SCHEELS gift card in his stocking.

Christmas Gifts for Him

Clothing: If he's going to be out ice fishing he’ll need some warm gear. The TheNorth Face Red Blaze Vest  and Patagonia  Organic Cotton Flannel Shirt should keep him cozy while he’s drinking beers with the boys waiting for a bite.

Ice Fishing Tent: They call it a shelter, but it looks like a tent to me. Speaking of staying warm, this tent should keep him nice and toasty.

Footwear: Everyone needs a good pair of running shoes and since the hubby is also training for a half marathon I figured he’ll need some new kicks, like the Nike Free Running Shoe. The OluKai Moloa loafer is perfect for after the race, brunch (wishful thinking) or just simply kicking back.

BBQ Tools: My man knows a thing or two about bbqing and his utensils have seen better days. These bad boys are just the replacement.

Ice Fishing Tackle:  I don’t even know what fish1 or fish2 are for, other than catching fish, but they sure are purdy.

Alarm Clock: These days we use our phone to wake up, so why not have a nice bedside dock for it to charge in while you catch ZZZ's. (Side note: I wonder if it come with two adapters, one for the 4 and 5 series)

Apple Store: The Mr will need some tunes pumping while he trains for the half marathon and well during the race too.

Her Christmas Wish List 2013

Her Christmas Wish List

Happy December!

Now that we're back from Mexico and snow is in the forecast it's starting to feel a lot like Christmas. I'm ready to decorate the house, bake cookies and attend a few holiday parties. Gift guides started popping up in the blogosphere back in November, but I just couldn't do it before Thanksgiving. I might be a little late to the party, but here's what I'm wishing for this holiday season.

I love sweaters and the Gap Elbow-patch sweater is a great go-to piece {Size S}. The JCrew stripe top {Size M} and THE LIMITED Heart Sweater {Size S} would add a little fun to my cloest.

Tahoe's cold during the winter and the JCrew cotton sleepwear {Size M} or The Dreamer Flannel Pajama {Size S} would help keep me cozy all winter long.

Ever since I donated my tall brown boots to goodwill I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect pair. You just can’t go wrong with Frye boots {Size 7}. If you know me then you know I love  TOMS  and wouldn’t mind adding a pair of booties into the mix {Size 6.5}.

The Kate Spade black purse is not only classic, but a perfect everyday satchel for work or running around town.

When it comes to jewelry I like to keep it simple and classic. The Kate Spade earrings are perfect for day or night. While the Maya Brenner Asymmetrical Mini Letter Necklace and Monogram Necklace {medium pendant, Yellow Gold, 18”, TWN} are pieces I would keep forever.

In a world of pinterest you can find almost everything on the internet, but lets face it it can be overwhemling. Plus, I love books. With that said, I would love to add the following to my collection: Spruce:A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design, Remodelista, Creative Family Home: Imaginative and Original Spaces for Modern Family Living, Well Fed, Well Fed 2 or  Clean Eating.

We enjoy having friends over from time to time and Cards Against Humanity would just add to the fun.

Since I'm such a health nut these days I would love a fitness tracker like the Up Jawbone {light grey or black} or the Nike+ FuelBand {hot pink or black}.  Half-marathon training starts in the new year and an iPod shuffle would help motivate me across the finish line {green or pink}.

What's on your wish list?
