Mocktails, Shakespeare and Girls Night

Happy Monday.

It's hard to believe the weekend has already come and gone. I actually took Friday off and enjoyed a three day weekend relaxing in Lake Tahoe.

Friday the hubby and I stuck around the house, walked the dog, went to lunch and just enjoyed lounging in the yard. It was perfect!

I even made myself  a few mocktails! This is like a strawberry daiquiri without the rum. If had whip cream, a little dollop on top would have finished off this drink. Blend 1 cup coconut water, 5-6 fresh strawberries and a few cubes of ice and ta-da. It's light and refreshing.

Friday evening I went over to my girlfriend's house for a girls night in and pasta making!

Saturday we walked the dog along the creek, worked on the yard and enjoyed the summer day.

Saturday night was another girls night (yes, poor hubby). We headed to north to Sand Harbor for Shakespeare's As You Like It. The venue is set lake side right on the beach. Look at this view!

Of course we had to snap a photo or two before the show started.

We packed a picnic dinner, watched the sunset and got our Shakespeare on. The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival runs Tuesday through Sunday until August 24. If you're in Tahoe looking for something different this is perfect. Make it a date night or girls night out. They allow you to bring in a picnic dinner and wine! I will definitely do it again next summer.

Sunday wasn't too eventful -- chores, dog walk and preparing for the week.

Bump Update: The First Trimester

Thank you for all your kind words about our little bundle of joy! It’s starting to sink in more and more. Today we're exactly 13 weeks! I can't believe that we're 1/3 of the way there.  Now for those details I promised.

Let’s start with how we found out. It was like any other Friday morning. My alarm went off at 5 a.m. for the gym and I stumbled to the bathroom. However that morning I realized I might be pregnant. So on a whim I decided to take a pregnancy test. To my surprise it was positive!

Excited, I ran into the bedroom and jumped on the bed while Nick was still asleep and said “I have to get ready for the gym, but first.... you’re going to be a dad!”

Half asleep he rolled over and said something lovely and went back to sleep. I headed to the GYM busted out a solid hour workout and got ready for my workday.

Since it was friday Nick didn’t have to work which meant when I returned home from the GYM we were able to talk about it some more. He was trying not to get too excited because anything could happen, but I could tell he was.

After talking for awhile I tried to figure out how far along I would be for Tough Mudder in August. I’m estimated 16 weeks and proclaimed to Nick that as long as the doctor approved I plan to participate. So stay tune.
Week 5-8
We found out the big news. We made our first appointment and continued on with daily life. We kept the secret from our family and friends for awhile. Around week eight I finally told my mom, sister and brother.

I continued to maintain my workout routine, attended a birthday party and  even traveled back to St. Louis, MO.

Week 9
We finally had our first doctor appointment. She confirmed we were pregnant and we even heard the heartbeat. Our doctor was happy with the placement and 160 heart beat. She snapped a few photos, went over a few things and sent us on our way.

Week 10
BBQ, beach and July 4th! The only thing I missed this week was an ice cold beer. We also told my dad and stepmom. My tummy definitely looks a bit more rounded here.

Week 11-12
I wrapped up a crazy work week, had my second doctor appointment and we told Nick's parents. We actually were able to tell Nick's parents in person which was really fun. We also started telling more friends and finally made the official announcement at 12 weeks.

FAQ's since announcing we're expecting

When are you due?
As of today our due date is January 30, but that can change. When we initially went to the doctor we measured at 10 weeks, but our doctor decided to keep us at nine weeks. We'll see what happens as we progress.

Do you know what you're having/are you going to find out?
No, we don't know yet. It's way to early. Yes, we are going to find out what we're having. I'm too much of a planner not to find out.

What about your kitchen remodel?
We are still moving forward with our kitchen renovation and I can't wait! We're currently waiting for the building permit so there really isn't any updates.

Are you going to track your progress?
Yes, absolutely! I can't wait to see this little belly grow. With that said I plan to post updates about once a month. I figure enough time will have passed to see significant change. For now lets start with 13 weeks!

How far along:
Exactly 13 weeks today!

Baby's size:
Our peanut is the size of a peach. About 2.9 inches and 0.81 ounces.

Weight gain:
Ah. The loaded question. So far only 4 pounds which I'm chalking some of that up to muscle gain from crossfit.

Food cravings:
Nothing to really note. I did break down and by bread a few weeks ago. Overall I'm just eating more.

Anything making you queasy or sick:
No. I'm only lucky girl. I'm still eating anything I want.

I'm sleeping like a champ. My nightly average is between 8-9 hours. Of course I'm waking up for a nightly bathroom break.

We find out in about Five weeks. There's a poll located at the top upper right of the blog if you're leaning one way or another.

Nothing yet. It's still too early.

Best moment this week:
There are so many. All the kind words and well wishes, hearing the heartbeat again on Tuesday, officially hitting the 1/3 mark and booking flights to Portland for Feast Portland

Miss anything?
Sushi and wine. However, I did go to sushi a few weeks ago with friends I just made sure everything I ordered was cooked.

I mostly feel like myself. However after a meal I feel like I look fat. I'm looking forward to the point when it's clear I'm pregnant.

I'm still hitting the GYM hard and logging 6-8 workouts a week. Yes, I was cleared by my doctor. She even cleared me to participate in Tough Mudder on August 16. My workouts include spin, crossfit, personal training and running. Hopefully I will be able to maintain a workout regimen throughout my entire pregnancy.

Maternity Clothes?
No, not yet. I did purchase a few cotton dresses from Old Navy (similar) and Frye boots from Nordstrom. I'm waiting to see what happens over the next few months.

Overall happy. Broke down once yesterday -- damn hormones.

Looking forward to:
We can't wait to find out whether our peanut is a boy or girl. Obviously we just want a healthy happy baby, but I can't wait to decorate the baby room, shop and talk about names!

Whew! If you made it to the end you rock. Have a great weekend.

First Trimester Favorites

First Trimester Favorites

This my be a shock to some of you, but I bought bread for the first time in a year! Hey, the baby wants what the baby wants. Clearly this baby wants more carbs. Smoothies and salads just weren't cutting it and I was constantly hungry. Once I started eating heartier meals my tummy wasn't rumbling for food. Really all it took was a piece of toast with my smoothie or a sandwich instead of a salad at lunch.

2. Water Bottle
Obvious I'm drinking water like it's going out of style. The Hydro Flask is my go-to water bottle and it will keep my water nice and cold all day. Let's be honest though I fill it up almost hourly!

3. Prenatal Vitamins
We have to keep this baby healthy! After researching prenatal vitamins I decided on Rainbow Light Prenatal One. They are a bit on the large side, but I only have to take them once a day. I didn't start taking prenatal vitamins until we found out I was pregant. My body adjusted to the vitamins nicely. I never once felt sick after taking them -- with or without food.

4. Vitamin D
After my first set of lab work came back my doctor informed me I was deficient in vitamin D and said to start taking 2,000 IU's a day. Of course I was surprised because I do spent a lot of time in the sun, but doctor's orders. The same day I quickly researched vitamin D and decided to try Nutrigold Vitamin D3
In the beginning I found myself using lip balm more often. I'm in love with Maybelline Baby Lips. Right now peppermint has been my favorite -- it's so soothing.

6. Wide Band Shorts
It's been so hot in Tahoe and I've noticed I'm grabbing shorts to workout in more often. The North Face Eat My Dust shorts are in heavy rotation. The band is nice and forgiving, the material is light-weight, plus they're cute.

7. Bubbles
It's summer and I miss having a glass of wine, cold beer or cocktail. My new drink of choice is San Pellegrino with a slice of lemon, lime or orange. Strawberries aren't bad either. It's not the same, but it's light, refreshing and does the job.

8. Pregnancy App
I have two, but I mainly use app. I use it mostly to make weekly notes, upload a weekly photo and learn about the week-by-week stages.

So there you have it a few things I've loved during my first Trimester.
There are so many items out there for expecting moms, but I would love to hear what I should buy and what I should pass on for the months to come. Fire away!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

nordstrom sale

My love for Nordstrom and a good sale runs deep like any woman. So when the anniversary or half-yearly sale rolls around you better believe I'm jumping up and down and ordering a few items. I wish I could walk into a Nordstrom, but unfortunately I would have to drive 2+ hours. Shopping from the couch isn't that bad. I probably end up spending less ;)

I could picture all these items in my closest, but I'm sticking to three. Can you guess which ones? Although I haven't pulled the trigger the jacket, boots and watch will soon be mine!

What are you loving at Nordstrom?

Weekend Happenings: Tahoe Celebrity Golf

Well that was a crazy week. I literally wrapped up an 80 hour work week yesterday and am currently on day 8. Yeah poor me, but seriously it's one of my most fun work weeks during the year. So even though I was working all weekend I was having a blast at the Celebrity Golf tournament. My week/ weekend looked a little something like this.

Gregg Maddux practicing before teeing off.

Larry the Cable Guy signing autographs. He was definitely a fan favorite !

Yours truly at the Korbel media spray-off.

Behind the scenes -- Rachel Nichols, CNN Sports, interviewing Goose Gossage, Greg Maddux and Ozzie Smith.

The American Century Investments sail boat.

Jeremy Roenick teeing off.

Nick and his parents enjoying the tournament and sunny weather Saturday.

Storm brewing over hole 17. This was right before the rain delay on Sunday.

Sunday night I was lucky enough to score tickets to the Zac Brown Band concert! Such a fun show.

Well, that sums up my life lately. Now I'm on to the next event.

First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage...

Then comes baby Meyer January 2015! Yup, we're expecting our first little peanut! We're over the moon with joy.

As of today we're exactly 12 weeks. I'll be back next week with a few updates. Until then I feel great and am ready to see what the next chapter brings.

Poppin Bottles Like it's my Job

One of the biggest events I work every year is the American Century Championship and today is day three. Each year Korbel hosts a Celebrity Spray-off on Thursday and the evening before media can give it a try. After yesterday I now have four years of poppin bottles under my belt. The goal of the event is to see how far you can pop the cork. The cork that goes the furthest wins.

And now for some awesome photos!

Robbie Gould kicked off the media event yesterday with about 80 ft.

Credit: Jeff Bayer
Over the past four years I've managed to pop the cork anywhere from 65 to 75 feet. It's all luck!

Our 4th of July Weekend

First off, I love three day weekends and wish I had every Friday off. This past weekend was perfection -- beach, bbqs, and good friends and family.

Friday morning my brother and his childhood friend joined us. We packed up the cooler and headed to the beach via bikes. The '48 Super Cruiser even made the trek.

Ah, the beach. we spent half the day hanging out on the beach, floating in the water and laughing with friends.

All the babes at the beach. Side Note: I think it's time for me to get a new hat.

After an awesome day at the beach we bbqed back at our place before heading to the firework show.

Saturday we hiked to Round Lake via Big Meadow. It's a fairly easy hike. The pup dog had a blast running through the open meadow.

Quick pic with the hubby and Roxy. She's not one to sit too long.

Once we arrived at Round Lake we enjoyed lunch and went for a swim. The water was perfect!

Sunday we relaxed at the house and ran a few errands. All in all I would say it was a successful weekend. Nick's folks fly in Thursday so the next few weeks are going to be full of adventures. How did you spend 4th of July weekend?
