Nursery // Glider & Rocker Roundup

Glider & Rockers

Top Row: Joya Rocking Chair // Shelter Swivel Glider with Slipcover // Sparrow Glider Ottoman Middle Row: Luca Glider Ottoman // Comfort Grand Swivel Rocker // Tufted Wingback Rocker  Bottom Row: Sleepytime Rocker // Retro Rocker // IKEA POÄNG Rocking chair

Baby M's nursery is starting to come together nicely! We're still sticking to an eclectic modern style and the chevron rug works with our Pottery Barn bedding!

The latest great debate is glider, rocker, sitting chair or no chair at all. Personally I'm not a fan of the typical glider, so I've been on a mission to find a modern glider/rocker. The nine options above prove there are modern glider/rockers for every budget.

We're leaning towards the Ikea Poang rocker, but have even discussed just purchasing a normal chair. Have you seen this Ikea rocker hack? It might be a great long term option if you're looking for a chair that will work post baby.

Current Mamas: Do you have a glider/rocker in your nursery? How much do you use it? If you're not currently on the path to parenthood, you might want to pin this for future reference :)

Bump Update // 35 Weeks

How far along
35 weeks today -- five weeks to go! Whoa, I can't believe it.

Baby's size:
She's the size of an coconut and measuring 4.25lbs as of last week! She might be a tad on the small side, but she's getting bigger day by day! Since she's about a week behind in growth we have an appointment for another measurement in two weeks to make sure she growing.

Weight gain:
As of Wednesday's doctor's appointment I'm still only up 15 lbs. I'm really happy about my progress. All belly!

Food cravings:
It's not so much a craving, but more like it's just the holidays. Let's say I've been eating whatever I want for the last month. HA! Whole 30 starts January 5th!

Still sleeping great! I'm one lucky girl. At least a solid 8 hours a night. I actually switch from sleeping on my back to my left side throughout the night. No special pillow required just 1-2 regular pillows.

Team Pink {reveal}

TONS! She really likes to kick me in the ribs. She also started doing rolls on me the other day while I was walking the dog! I have a feeling we are going to have a very active child.

Best moment this week:
Seeing her during our 35 week appointment. Another high note was learning that we'll be able to deliver in Tahoe. Last week we visited the specialist in Reno, NV and they have no problem it. Worse case is we take a seven minute helicopter ride.

Also getting pedis with two of my other preggo friends and of course Christmas!

Miss anything?
Just feeling normal.

Not much. A few sharp pains here and there and sore hips (probably from carrying around another 15 lbs).

Still maintaining. I posted about my favorite pregnancy workout gear on Monday. It's official -- I'm taking a break from the box/crossfit until after the baby. I have to modify too much. Now, I actually make up my own WOD at the gym.

Maternity Clothes?
Yes, for the most part. My co-workers and husband are going to get tried of my attire really quick. I picked up this and this non-maternity top and love them. They will definitely will work over the next five weeks and beyond

Relieved about being able to have the baby in Tahoe and not needing to drive over an hour! Anxious about the baby room. I think my dog is picking up on it too. She tore open two Christmas gifts, two Christmas cards and a number paper items. This is not like her and trust me she is not being neglected.
Looking forward to:
Relaxing next month. Well, at least trying too.

Five Breakfast Ideas for Christmas

T-2 days until Christmas. Hope all your shopping and wrapping is done.

I'm keeping it short and sweet today -- Christmas breakfast. If you're like me you're already thinking about Christmas breakfast and of course dinner! In our family Christmas always starts off with a tasty breakfast and mimosas (in no particular order). I might not able to participate in mimosas, but I can enjoy other treats like french toast, cinnamon rolls or pancakes. It's Christmas -- all diets are thrown out the window! Here are just a few dishes to get your taste buds watering.

Fit Pregnancy // The Best Workout Gear

The Best Pregnancy Workout Gear

With only five or so weeks to go, I thought it was time to round-up my favorite pregnancy workout gear. If you've been following along you know I've been maintaining a regular workout routine and at nearly 35 weeks I'm still working out 5-6 times a week! Yes, I'm crazy. Please note, I was cleared by my OB to continue working out. Over the course of my pregnancy I was lucky enough to wear a number of pieces I already owned, but also invested in a few items.

The Gapfit Breathe tank (similar) was by far my favorite top. I purchased it on a whim around 18 weeks during the GAP friends and family sale and absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that during the next sale I purchased another. It's perfect for everything from spin to crossfit. It also layers nicely under my colder weather gear.

I'm a big fan of The North Face and one of the best non-maternity tanks I've loved the entire time is my TNF Flow Tank. It is perfect for spin or yoga. For budget friendly options check out similar versions from Old Navy and Target.

I'm not a big fan of tees or long sleeve tops, but I did purchase a long sleeve top from TJ Maxx (similar) for layering during early morning workouts or afternoon dog walks.

Regarding jackets: I actaully didn't purchase any. Due to the fact, I've stayed relatively small I haven't found it necessary to buy anything. Currently, I rotate between this TNF fleece and jacket. If you are in need of a light-weight maternity workout jacket I would recommend the GapFit training jacket. (One I love the gap and two there's always a discount.)

The key is finding pants with a wide waistband. As crazy as it sounds I only have one pair of maternity workout pants (GapFit fast leggings) and didn't purchase them until I was 30 weeks along. Although, I like them and they work I definitely prefer to wear them lounging around the house vs. working out.

My favorites have been these and these capris and these shorts from The North Face. I also picked up a few non-maternity running tights with wide waistbands from Marshalls and TJ Maxx which have worked out nicely. Although I didn't purchase them I've heard nothing, but great things about these leggings -- if you're willing to splurge.

A few notes:
  • Ditch the compression pants. It's all about comfort and when things are being squeezed it doesn't look pretty or feel good.
  • You can still buy non-maternity tops. Just keep them loose and keep the material and length in mind.
  • I've purchased all maternity items in my "normal" size and have been happy with the decision.
  • I'm 5'4" and at 34 weeks weigh 147 pounds
  • Top sizes range from small to medium
  • Pant sizes are always a medium
Phew. Are you still with me? I had a relatively easy time finding workout gear, but I know what I like and my body didn't change too drastically -- other than the obvious. When picking colors I always stick to grey or black bottoms. That way I can wear a bright top and there are no dilemmas about what bottoms to wear. Do your research and if you're ordering online always check the return policy -- just in case.

Friday Five

Calling all foodies -- whether you love to cook or just love to eat. I partnered with Hamilton Beach to give away a Stack and Snap 10 Cup Food Processor! There's still three days left to enter don't delay! Plus, I included a recipe for roasted tomatillo salsa!

Our Christmas cards are signed, sealed and delivered (hopefully). Thank you your for sweet notes earlier this week!

Thank you for all the advice regarding our baby girl's nursery on Monday. I'm actually starting to feel better. Not sure why I'm putting so much pressure on myself. Anyone else feel that way? Anyway, I purchased bedding from PB Kids! I know -- I just went a totally different direction. I realized last night I'm not completely down with modern, but then I'm not completely traditional. I guess I'm what they call transitional?! But what does that look like? We'll find out once this room is all said and done. New direction, new mood board -- but still a work in progress. Colors: white, grey, navy raspberry/pink and maybe we'll throw some mint/teal in there.

Baby Room

I'm chatting about fitness over at Running On Happy today. Stop by, say hi and show Rachel some blogger love. On another fitness note, I posted this photo on instagram Wednesday morning -- 24 weeks vs. 34 weeks. I'm lucky that I've been able to stay so active throughout my entire pregnancy and you can definitely see it here. All belly and well maybe a little booty ;)

I was late to the party, but I scored the plaid ZARA scarf knock off at Target a few weeks ago. Lucky me snagged the last one at our local store!

Roasted-Tomatillo Salsa + Hamilton Beach Stack and Snap Food Processor Review & Giveaway!

{Disclosure: As a Brand Ambassador for Hamilton Beach I received the Stack and Snap™ 10 CupFood Processor to review, however, all opinions are 100% my own. This giveaway is sponsored by Hamilton Beach.}

I love Mexican food! Hands down it's something I could eat multiple times a week. Not kidding. Growing up in San Diego I had a plethora of amazing Mexican joints to pick from. Now that I'm living in Tahoe that isn't the case. We've found one restaurant actually worthwhile otherwise we make our own. Luckily there's a mexican meat market down the street from us!

When we switched to eating Paleo at the beginning of the year I couldn't wait to try Against All Grain's Roasted-Tomatillo Salsa and Mexican Chicken Chowder. Let's just say it's now one of our favorite dishes to make. Her salsa is incredibly tasty and easy to make and all you need is food processor!

Let's start with the Hamilton Beach Stack and Snap 10 cup Food Processor

  • Easy stack & snap assembly
  • Unique, patent-pending design requires no difficult twisting & locking
  • Simple function guide shows you which blade to use & which button to press
  • Big Mouth® feed tube reduces pre-cutting
  • Sealed bowl prevents leaks
  • Powerful 450 watt motor
  • Reversible slice/shred disk
  • Chopping S-blade locks into bowl and stays put during pouring
  • Dishwasher safe blades, bowl, & lid

Compared to the massive food processor I already had the Stack and Snap Food Processor is nice and compact making it easy for storage, cleaning, and smaller dishes. Don't let it's size fool you. It's mighty and gets the job done. In the few weeks I've had the food processor it's already been used five or six times!

Aside from it being so compact everything stores nicely inside. Yes, you don't have to worry about finding all the pieces when you need to use it. It's a bit loud and blows air while in use, but overall it's the perfect kitchen tool. Plus, you can't beat the price of $59!

Roasted-Tomatillo Salsa
{via Against All Grain cookbook}

1/2 pound tomatillos - husked and rinsed
1-2 serrano chilies
1 large garlic cloves
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup diced white onion
2 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
Preheat oven to 425 degrees

Place the tomatillos, chilies and garlic on rimmed baking sheet in the top third of the oven, about 6 inches away from the heating element. Roast until black spots bubble up and the vegetables soften, about 5 minutes. Flip them over and roast for an additional 5 minutes.

Cool for five minutes, then transfer everything to the processor, including all the juices in the pan. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse until smooth. Chill before serving. Makes about two cups.
