Emerson Quinn // One Month

Girlfriend is one month and I can't believe it.

Weight + Height | She's growing like a weed! We had our one month check up today and she was 8 lbs 10 oz and 20.5 inches!

Health | She has a clean bill of health, but some how has hiccups after every feeding. Oh and girlfriend has gas. According to her pediatrician it's because of my high fiber diet. I guess I need to cut back on kale salads and spinach smoothies.

Sleep | At this point we get at least one four hour stretch at night then she's up two to three hours later. We officially started baby wise this week. It's been interesting.

Eat | All breast milk. However, as of today we're starting to supplement with formula since I can't keep up with her demand and we're out of our frozen supply from when she was in the NICU. We'll see how that goes.

Wear | She's wearing 0-3 month now. I couldn't believe that in just days she out grew her newborn clothes.

Social | My mother-in-law (aka Nana) was in town all last week. It was really great having her here. My sister and brother get into town tonight.

Baby Gear | The Summer Infant SwaddleMe Adjustable Infant Wrap is a lifesaver! Emerson sleeps in one every night. We're also loving Satsuma Designs Baby Mittens they don't fall off -- ever.

Milestones | Tuesday was our first entire day all by ourselves! We went and had lunch with our friends at the Blue Angel Cafe.

We're making progress with tummy time. Emerson is doing great turning her head from side to side. She even rolled over twice.

Postpartum | This mama is feeling great! I had my three week check up last week and to my surprise  already hit my pre pregnancy weight! I'm still soft and am hoping at my appointment next week I'm cleared for full activity. Until then I'm still logging miles daily walking.

Peanut Butter Cookies + Earth Balance Review

{Disclaimer: I received a jar of Earth Balance pb complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. Opinions are 100% my own.}

Sweets are definitely a weakness of mine whether it's ice cream, cookies or brownies I don't discriminate. Naturally when Influentser sent yours truly a coupon to test a Earth Balance spread I knew I had to pick up some PB and make cookies. Good thing I'm breast feeding and don't really have to worry about the calories when I eat five cookies in a day! Yup, I went there.

Previously I had never tried any Earth Balance products. I was unsure as it's marketed as "vegan." To my surprise the pb was pretty amazing -- rich, creamy and super smooth. The agave added a nice sweetness without losing the peanut butter flavor or texture. Overall, I would potentially purchase again especially if it's on sale.

  • Sweetened with agave
  • Vegan
  • No GMOS
  • Smooth and creamy
  • The added flaxseed doesn't change taste or consistency
  • Price -- A 16 oz jar at my supermarket runs $6.39. If you're like me you'll go through it in a week. That's a bit much.

Earth balance offers a number of nut butters and next time I'm definitely going to pick up a jar of coconut peanut butter!

Now for the good stuff -- cookies! I whipped these up in less than an hour.

Snapshots of the Weekend

I don't know about you, but it was a gorgeous weekend in Lake Tahoe. I'm talking about 60 degrees and nothing but sunshine!

Friday started with a little mom time. Yup I got a hair cut. Funny thing -- I made this appointment in the beginning of January. I guess I was confident I would have the baby before Feb 13.

With a new Valentine in our life this year we kept it really low key. We kicked off Saturday morning  with our newborn photo shoot and rounded out the evening with dinner in. Here's a sneak peek...

Guess who is already fitting nicely into her pre pregnancy jeans? Yours Truly! Oh this made me feel so good. Yes, I'm soft like a marshmallow right now, but I know I'm not too far off from tightening everything up. Fingers crossed I'm cleared to workout this week.

Breast feeding makes you hungry! I don't think I was ever this hungry during my pregnancy. Maybe it's the fact that I'm home all day too. I definitely feel like I'm continuously snacking. Here's what one day over the weekend looked like.

Breakfast: Steel cut oats with almond milk, honey, walnuts and red raspberries
Mid morning snack: Lara bar
Lunch: Chicken Salad
Dinner: Turkey Lasagna with a Kale Salad

I'm pretty sure there were a few other snacks that day like banana with peanut butter, dried mangos or 180 Pops.

We took full advantage of the nice weather with daily walks. I'm working up to 3 miles and at a quicker pace. Right now it's slow and steady. Oh and the views aren't bad either.

For a little extra workout I'm wearing my babe during our walks. We personally have the Boba Wrap and Ergo, but have only used the Boba Wrap so far. It's supper easy to use, our girl loves it and it's comfortable for mama to wear!

We started baby wise training this weekend and so far so go! Oh, there were tons of snuggles too.

How was your weekend?

Emerson Quinn // Two Weeks

Happy Friday!

So I had every intention on posting Emerson's birth story and nursery reveal this week, but I was busy getting my snuggles in and before I knew it she turned two weeks! Moving forward I plan on posting monthly updates, but I felt I needed to celebrate her first week at home. It was a successful week at that.

This was the best photo. She kept rolling on me. HA!

At our one week check up  she was back at her birth weight, a even 7 lbs and measured 19.5 inches.

She's doing great! The pediatrician was pleased with the cooling out come and we are too! Now that we are home so far so good. She's a pooping and peeing machine.

Girlfriend likes to sleep and we're lucky she sleeps through the night. Hoping I didn't just jinx myself.

All breast milk. We actually do a combo of breast feeding and bottle feeding. While we were at UC Davis Children's Hospital we were only able to bottle feed so I got really good at pumping. Once we brought our girl home we started on breast feeding and have been successful. However, I 'm starting to feel as though I'm not producing enough.

Nothing but newborn clothes. 0-3 months are still too big.

We had a number of visitors this week. It felt great to see friends. She even had her first date with her future bf Wyatt.

Baby Gear
Other than the boppy pillow for nursing we're loving the Summer Infant SwaddleMe Microfleece WrapBoba Wrap and Rock n' Play.

Passing all her tests and being discharged from the hospital.

Things seem to be healing well. I have a check up next week so we'll see. Fingers crossed I'll be cleared to start working out. Not sure what I weigh, but I think it's safe to say I only need to shed five or so pounds and tighten up a bit.

It's still very surreal that we're now responsible for a little person. We're just smitten. The weather has been gorgeous and we've been able to get outside for a few long walks. It feels great to get out and move.

Valentine's Day // Gifts for your Sweetheart

Saturday is Valentine's Day and we're celebrating by taking Emerson's newborn photos! Nick and I usually don't do anything big and this year isn't any different. Instead of going out we'll probably make something yummy and watch a movie. Exciting right?!

Looking for something for your sweetheart? Here are just a few picks any girl would love.

Postpartum // My Essentials

Postpartum My Essentials

Happy Monday!

We survived our first weekend at home with Emerson! If you follow me on instagram then you know her first week was spent in the NICU at UC Davis Children's Hospital. It was a stressful week. I have so much to blog about this week from her birth story to our NICU experience to her nursery reveal. Just warning you now this week will be all baby. Don't worry next week I'll be back with food, fitness, adventure and a dash of Emerson!

While I was pregnant I found posts about "the essentials" very handy. Since this was my first pregnancy I didn't know what to expect over the nine months or postpartum. Everyone's recovery time is different, but these are a few things that helped me make the transition from pregnant to postpartum just a bit easier.

Cute Sweatpants: You just pushed out a 7+ pound baby and all you want is to be comfortable, but also feel good. For the last few weeks I've lived in leggings or cute sweatpants. Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you still can't look good!

Ugg Slippers: Yup lounging around the house calls for a good pair of slippers! You can't go wrong with Uggs.

Lansinoh Lanolin: I'm lucky Emerson is up for breastfeeding and is good at it! I know other mamas swear by this stuff and well so far it's helped make the transition to breast feeding 90% of the time easier. Yup I pump and the dad bottle feeds too. Don't forget to pick up some nursing pads as well.

No-Show Hiphugger: After a day or two of wearing the lovely hospital mesh panties I upgraded to these VS hiphuggers. They are amazing! So comfy and super breathable. They're perfect for leggings -- Hello no panty lines! I purchased my normal size and they fit just fine.

Gilligan O'Malley Nursing Cami: If you're breast feeding then a number of nursing tops are essential. I personally like this cami. My advice is try on a few different styles around 37 weeks and pick what is most comfortable to you. I also have been sporting this sleep nursing bra.

Zico Coconut Water: Hydratation is the name of the game. Aside from water I've been enjoying coconut water daily. Babies really drain you, but they are worth it.

Yogi Tea: I've also been staying hydrated with some yummy tea that is said to help boost milk production. win-win

Always Maxi Pads: Let's be real you are going to have longest period ever... just stock up. I found the Always infinity with flex foam to be my favorite. Not wearing pads since a teen I had no clue which ones to buy luckily these worked out nicely! Word to the wise they've come a long way over the last 15 years.

Belly Bandit: Keep it tight. I went back and forth about whether or not I needed it. Honestly my stomach is pretty flat after a week (more on that later), but now I feel I need a little something extra to help pull everything together. The belly bandit does just that. It really holds everything in place nicely while your body is healing. I have the bamboo version in xs.

What items couldn't you live without postpartum?
