Emerson Quinn // Five Months

OMG, I have a five month old! She's a lively one to boot and sure does make life fun.

Height + Weight | At her 4 month appointment she weighed 14 lbs 14oz and was 25.5 inches. She was in the 70th percent tile for weight and 85th percent tile for height! I would guess that she's put on a few lbs since then.

Health | Growing like a weed! There's been a few things happening with her development. Nothing to worry about now, but we don't want her to fall behind. Since she had such a dramatic entry into the world she is considered a high risk baby for developmental delays. Because of this we're starting to work with a physical therapist to make sure she doesn't fall behind.

Currently she's testing at or above her age, but we don't want to assume that she will in another 3 month, 6 months or a year. So far we're working on sitting unassisted. She's a quick learner. :) Stay tune.

Sleep | Girlfriend is a sleeper! She's still mostly sleeping through the night although every now and then she'll wake up once between 2 and 5 a.m. During the day we get at least two solid two plus hour naps. Makes it easy for mom to get some work done.

Eat | All breast milk. Guess who decided to take the bottle again! All it took was switching brands. We've started to introduce solids  -- banana, sweet potato, mango and rice cereal. Did I mention girlfriend has two teeth on the bottom!

Wear | She's a big girl and is in 6-9 months right now. It also depends on the brand.

Social | She's a little ham! So many little squeals. I'm just waiting for the full belly laugh. We traveled down to So Cal a few weeks ago and she was spoiled.

Baby Gear | We're loving our bob stroller, Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo and bumbo right now.

Milestones | The last few months are a blur with the house reno, but mom, baby and roxy are troopers!

+ First two teeth!

+ Traveled to So Cal for the first time.

Started eating solids

+ Rolling over more and more

+ She discovered her toes and thinks they are pretty cool.

+ more and more vocal everyday

Postpartum | That's a post for another day.

18-20 weeks

Saving Money with Solar

Our Kitchen/ living room remodel is almost done! The scope of work ended up being much bigger than we originally planned, but it's getting done so I couldn't be happier! However, now more than ever we're looking at additional ways to save our pennies. We're not big fans of debt, but then who is.

Common ways to save money would be canceling cable (which we did 18 months ago), not eating out or online shopping (which I'm notorious for). I guess i could cancel my gym memberships (yes I have two), but lets be honest that's not going to happen! Those are all simple ways to cut costs. However, how do you go about lowering other costs like your electric bill without being the light nazi or living in the dark?

After some reserch we found one of the easiest ways to save money at home is going go solar. When you go solar with Sunrun you'll start saving on your electricity bill immediately. Electricity from Sunrun is more affordable than electricity from your utility. Sunrun customers save an average of 20% on their electricity costs.* *Actual savings will vary. Click here for details.

You can spend your savings on your retirement, debt, a new outfit, or a dream vacation. Obviously you know where I'm spending my savings! My kitchen remodel.

Check out the video below for the Sunrun low down.

What would they look like on your roof?

Misconceptions About Solar Power
  • "Solar is expensive and has a high upfront cost." Reality: With Sunrun solar leasing, homeowners can get solar on their roof for as little as $0 down and start saving on their monthly electricity costs immediately.
  • "Solar is complicated and out of reach." Reality: Solar service providers like Sunrun take care of all of the details of going solar, from designing the system, installing it on your roof,
  • monitoring the system's production, and maintaining the system throughout the lifetime of the solar service agreement.
  • "Solar energy is more expensive than the electricity my utility provides."Reality: If Sunrun doesn't think they can save you money, they won't sell you a system
Whew! Are you still with me?  There you have it Sunrun solar is a win-win; good for your wallet, and good for the planet.

Sunrun is giving away a Nest thermostat on their Facebook page! Click here to enter.

Nordstroms's 40% off Summer Sale Picks

Ahhh.. Summertime. There's nothing better than a day at the beach, mountain biking or really anything outdoors with friends. Tahoe during the summer is10 times better than winter. Don't get me wrong I love snowboarding, but I LOVE summer. You can take the girl out of San Diego, but you can't take San Diego out of the girl.

Anyway, there's only a few days left to take advantage of Nordstroms's 40% off Summer Sale. Don't delay there are some great pieces! I have a $200+ gift card burning a hole in my wallet. Here are a few pieces currently living in my cart. Now all I have to do is narrow it down!

What trends are you loving this summer?

Baby Gear // HALO SleepSack Giveaway

{Disclaimer: This post was brought to you as a partnership with HALO. Emerson received a  HALO® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket  to test. As always opinions are 100% my own. Emerson tested and mom approved.}

A well rested baby makes for a happy baby and mom! We're very fortunate that Emerson sleeps through the night... most nights. Don't get me wrong we have nights where she'll wake up at 3 or 4 a.m. eat then go right back down. Either way girlfriend likes to sleep and boy are we happy about it.

Up until she was three months old we used easy swaddles at night, but then she started breaking free. Enter a sleep sack. Essentially it's a wearing blanket. We can put her down at night knowing she's warm and safe.

We've tried a few different brands, but keep going back to the HALO® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket. We love that she has plenty of room to move, it's sleeveless (nice for warm summer months), and zips open from her feet to neck. The zipper makes it nice for diaper changes. The sleepsack is available in a variety of prints/colors, materials (cotton or fleece) and sizes (up to 5T). I plan on buying a fleece sleepsack for winter -- it gets cold in Tahoe! You can't beat the price for peace of mind either. Plus, Emerson has learned when the sack goes on it's time for bed. #winning

They also have a bassinet for parents wanting infants to sleep in their room during the first few months. My friend Jane actually has one and loves it!

About HALO
HALO Innovations is dedicated to putting the health, safety and well-being of babies first. In fact, over 1,300 hospitals use HALO® SleepSack® wearable blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative.  The HALO family of products, including HALO SleepSacks and SleepSack Swaddles, SwaddeSure and the best-selling HALO BassinestTM Swivel Sleeper, help children from newborn to toddler age sleep better and safer.

Safe Sleep Tips

Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
Remove all blankets, comforters and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
Room share, but don’t bed share. Bed sharing can put a child at risk of suffocation.

+ Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
As part of Emerson testing out a SleepSack, HALO is kindly offering one lucky reader a HALO® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket valued at $26.95!
Prize: (1) HALO® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket

Five Eats to Try this Weekend

It's no secret I love food. In fact, I'm a fat kid at heart. Yup, I went there. However, it's doesn't mean I indulge daily. Everything in moderation right?! Well, here are five eats from cheat days to healthy meals I can't wait to try this summer.

ONE | S'mores Bars [via]
HOLY yum! I can already picture sitting around a camp fire or just in my living room (let's be honest) and enjoying these bad boys.

TWO | Cucumber Tomato Avocado Salad [via]
This dish just screams summer. I might just have to make it this weekend. All I need are a few tomatoes.

THREE | Raspberry - Dark Chocolate Banana Bread [via]
Be still my heart -- three things I love in one -- chocolate, berries and bread! Honestly, I don't think this would live longer than a few days in my house.

FOUR | Zucchini Noodles with Pesto [via]
I still haven't made zucchini noodles, but it's high on my to-do list. I also feel as though it's a very summer dish as it can be served cold. Do you zoodle?

FIVE | Chipotle Chicken Sweet Potato Skins [via]
Come on a healthy twist on an america favorite -- yes, please! This is perfect when you have some chicken leftover and not sure what to make.

What dish can't you wait to make?

Emerson Quinn // Four Months

Where has the time gone!? Emerson is already four months or technically 17 weeks old. She's such a joy to have. We really got lucky with a great baby. She kills me when I take her weekly photo. I break out the nice camera and I get nothing, but as soon as I use my iPhone she's all smiles! She also moves quick so it's a learning curve for both of us these days.

Height + Weight | No clue at this point, but I can say she's heavier than she was last month. I'm thinking about 15ish pounds. We have our official four month check up next week.

Health | She had a little head cold over the weekend, but it really didn't seem to phase her.

Sleep | WOW-O-WOW girlfriend is a sleeper! She's been in her crib full time for a little over a month now and logs 10ish hours a night. Oh, she's a great little napper too!

Eat | All breast milk (straight from the source). Girlfriend once took the bottle, but now refuses it! Any tips? I need help.

Wear | She's a big girl and is in 6+ months right now. It also depends on the brand. I'm pretty sure she wore 9 month pj's last night!

Social | She's a little ham! We started daycare this month and she's doing great. We've gone out to dinner and breakfast a few times. She also squeals and is smiling at all the workers at the house. Lot's of FaceTime these days especially since grandma Le Le figured out how to use it.

Baby Gear | We're loving our bob strollerplay mat and Sophie the Giraffe  right now.

Milestones | The last month has been a blur with the house reno, but mom, baby and roxy are troopers!

+ We celebrated my first mother's day.

+ She had her first little head cold. Poor girl had a hard time breathing through her little nose.

+ She rolled over from her stomach to her back for the first time.

+ Talking and squealing more and more.

+ Kicked off her first home renovation.

+ Met her Grandpa and Grandma Wasner (my dad and step-mom)

+ Spent a afternoon hanging out in the front yard.

+ Is getting stronger and stronger.

+ She loves to stand and sit up.

+ She wants to put everything in her mouth.

+ She tried her first berry smoothie and guacamole. I put a little on my finger and let her suck on it. She seemed to like it.

+ She tested out the jumper and had mixed feelings about it.

Postpartum | I'm back in the office two days a week and working from home the other three. It's great! I'm back at crossfit and started taking the steps to become a health coach! Yup, it's time. Fitness is a passion and I figure why not help others achieve their goals too. More coming soon -- so stay tuned.

13-16 weeks old!
