All the Details About Our Trip to Maui, Hawaii

Hey, Hi, Hello. Is this thing on? Yeah remember that time we went to Maui for my sister's wedding? You're right it will be a year in MAY. Well, yours truly figured it was time to share details about our trip. Can you believe it? I can't. I'm still waiting to read a recap about our Mazatlan trip few years ago. Maybe tomorrow....

Traveling with a toddler is crazy. If you can afford to bring a nanny with you, do it. This way no one has to miss out during said toddler's 3 hour, middle of the day, nap. If your toddler has FOMO don't even try napping at the beach, poolside, etc.

Sunset at the Andaz
We stayed in the sleepy town of Wailea. While my sister stayed at the Andaz, which we reaped the befits of, we decided to rent a condo a block down the street via VRBO. It was easy and affordable. I highly recommend this avenue if you have small children. We were able to rent a crib for the week making the sleeping arrangement with a toddler smooth sailing, aside for the three hour time difference.

The Beach in front of the Andaz

We hit the beach every day from morning walks, lounging and building sand castles. Maui offers an array of activities such as blow holes, the Road to Hana, Bamboo forests, endless waterfalls, and volcanos which is also the best place to watch the sun rise.

While we weren't able to do everything we did make it to HANA, experienced a luau and enjoyed plenty of beach time.

It wasn't Emerson's first beach experience, but she wasn't too sure about.

It's a long twisty and narrow road, but we made it. The views and stops along the way were worth it. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Everywhere! Although we took full advantage of our kitchen we made sure to enjoy all the fresh fresh we could.

Thinking about running away to get married? I suggest Maui...

Whew.... if you're still with me YAY! I don't know about you, but I'm ready for another vacation!

Gift Ideas for a Two Year Old

Emerson turns two this weekend! Two years has flown by and we're celebrating with a small party. Since Emerson doesn't need anything we asked family to donate to her college fund in lieu of a gift. However it's always fun putting together a little gift guide.

So what made the list?

Clothes -- Even though it's the middle of winter I included a few spring/summer pieces. Girlfriend has enough winter clothes. Last summer she lived in her jelly sandals so I figured she'll need a pair for this summer.

Books always make the list because a kid can never have too many books. Every night we have to read at least three books. Emerson always says "one more."

Toys -- We bought Emerson a kitchen for Christmas so I wanted to add a few pieces. Isn't the coffee maker too cute? Playing to the summer theme again I included a Green Toys tool set and Little People camp set.

It's all about keeping things simple.

Do you have a two year old? What's their favorite book or toy?

Valentine's Day Toddler Style

Excuse me while I dig out of all this snow. Not sure what I'm talking about, check out my Instagram and you'll see feet upon feet of snow... not kidding. Anyway let's talk about something fun like Valentine's Day. The hubby and I have never really celebrated it, because it's a total hallmark holiday, but when you have a little one holidays are way more fun. Think all things hearts from pancakes to leggings.

Today I rounded up a few outfits any little sweetheart would be happy to rock.

Like I mentioned above we don't have big plans for Feb. 14, but we'll probably make it special with paleo heart pancakes and playing in the snow. I mentioned something to the hubby about building a sledding hill.... Not only is it totally doable (hello snow and double lot), but it would be so much fun for Emerson and her friends. You know when they're not busy eating snow. HA.

Do you have any fun Valentine's Day plans?

Friday Favorites: baking, snow and workout clothes

It's been a long few weeks full of snow, work, parties and party planning. Emerson in turning two in a week! Where has the time gone? Thanks to Minted and the Target Spot her  party is coming together nicely. Can we talk about the Target Spot for minute? Isn't is awesome?! For her party I was able to score a mini cake stand ($5), garland ($1-$3) and cake/cupcakes toppers ($1). Now I need to decide on a cake. Any healthy suggestions? Ideally it would be sugar-ish free. But more on her party later let's talk about what I'm currently loving.

Baked Goods
Earlier is week I shared the most delicious Healthy-ish Chocolate Chip Muffins. Trust me you should make them this weekend.

If you didn't know I'm a big fan of Crossfit and even spend extra time in the 'box' working on skills. Crossfit changes my life and body for the better. I'm not bored with workouts, I want to workout and I'm the strongest I've been since college.

I over heard girls say they don't want to get big, but that's a myth. Look at me I lift heavy and I'm by no means 'big.' My arms are toned and booty is round, but that's me. I recenting read and article How Will CrossFit Make You Look? and felt it was perfect. Crossfit will make you look like the best version of you. Give it three months and you'll see what I mean. Happy Lifting.

Best Workout Deals
You didn't think I would keep some of the best workout apparel deals to myself, did you? Up until Tuesday night I had not spent a dime on unnecessary items! WOW I know. It felt good, but then I splurged on a pair of Athleta High Rise Mesh 7/8 Tights and saved on a GapFit Breathe racerback tank.

Here are a few deals I'm eyeing this week.

Yeah, yeah -- I know you're tried of me talking about the snow, but it won't stop. Due to all the predication California is almost out of the drought. However, we'll need a few years like this winter to maintain it.

On that note, I'll leave you with this...

Toddler Approved Snow Gear

If this photo doesn't melt your heart. Emerson is the cutest like snow bunny (IMO). With all the recent snowfall we've been spending a lot of time outside. Not to mention Emerson plays outside everyday at preschool. With that said, I looked for items that would keep our girl warm and last the entire season. We went with high low. Emerson's home snow gear is Obermeyer and her school snow gear is Cat & Jack from Target!

Why Target? At preschool they play hard and sometimes share clothes.  This way we don't have to worry about ripes, stains or another kids wearing her clothes. Yup, that's happen.

If you live in snow county invest in quality snow pieces, but if you're visiting for the weekend Cat & Jack for Target will suffice. I recommend purchasing a second snowsuit to leave at preschool as well.

Toddler Tested and Approved Snow Gear

Jacket: We love Emerson's Obermeyer Jacket because it's insulted enough  not to have to layer. Yet it might be too warm during the spring. However her Cat & Jack Jacket is 3-in-1 making it perfect for winter and spring.

Pants/ Bibs: We prefer bibs to pants. This eliminates the chance snow getting between layers. Again she has Obermeyer and Cat & Jack bibs.

Gloves: While Emerson rises off her gloves as soon as we get outside we try..... If worn, the Gordon Toddler Easy On Mitts will keep the little hands nice and toasty.

Hat: We have a handful of beanies, but on snowy days she prefers beanies with earflaps. It also helps if it's fleece lined. The double pom pom is always fun too.

Shoes: Snow shoes are key. not only do they offer warm they help with traction. Originally I was planning on purchasing these Sorel's, but ended up going with Cat & Jack snow boots. So far they've been perfect.

Healthy-ish Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

It's no secret January is a month known for being healthy and getting fit not baking. What if I said you could bake something equally delicious and healthy? Sign me up, right?!

The holidays flew by and sadly I didn't do any baking. It shouldn't come as a surprise, I have a weakness for baked goods, pastries and ice cream. I also have a thing for kitchen gadgets and tools. So when Trudeau asked if they could send me some baking tools I jumped at the chance.

Set of 3 Round Chocolate Molds [c/o]/ LARGE CUPCAKE SPATULA [c/o]/ Set of 5 Measuring Cups [c/o]
Every cook can use a extra set of measuring cups or spatula. I probably own 5+ spatulas varying in shape and size.

The last Tahoe storm provided the perfect opportunity and reason to do a little baking with my new Trudeau goodies. No candies yet, but I did make some tasty muffins!

I'll throw it out there this fit gal follows the 80/20 rule. When Sunday rolls around I don't mind enjoying a treat or two. These Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins hit the spot. Enjoy them along or with a cup of coffee.

Happy baking!

Tahoe Blizzard 2017

We survived the storm of the century! Just in case you're living under a rock the west coast was hit with some serious weather. In Lake Tahoe specifically we experienced rain, snow and 100+ mph winds over the course of FIVE days. Let's just say we currently have 3-4 ish feet in our yard and it's only January.

After a day and 5+ inches of rain, which created flooding, the temperature dropped and snow finally started to fall. Tuesday we woke up to around a foot or so of snow at our house.

It didn't stop there. Tuesday was the worst day of the storm creating white out conditions, road closures, blackouts and fallen trees. Needless to say schools were closed and we didn't leave the house. I'm lucky enough to work from home, but the hubby's office was closed. He actually had 3 snow days!

There was a lot of snow removal happening around the clock.

Luckily this one like the snow!

We didn't venture too far from the house, but we made sure to get outside, stretch our legs and play in the snow.

Check out the berm behind Emerson and Roxy!

The resorts are finally starting to dig out and I'm looking forward to get some turns in!

It's been a few weeks and I can honestly say this is the best winter jacket money can buy! While I have a puffy, the last few years I've been on the hunt for a not ski jacket that is longer, warm, fitted, etc. Before heading to colorado for Christmas I pulled the trigger and treated myself to a new North Face jacket. Honestly it's everything I wanted in a casual winter jacket -- I can wear to meetings or running errands.

Regarding sizing: The North Face 'true size' finder recommended a small so I went with it.  It's a perfect fit. I can layer a light sweater or hoodie under and still be comfortable. The length in the body and arms are perfect. Without trying on a medium I can safely say it would have been too big.

FriYAY: I'm back, Workout Gear + SNOW

Hey, hey -- guess who's back?! Yours truly. After enjoying a little holiday blog vacation I decided to give myself a few extra days. Because why not. The world didn't end, right? Anyway, I'm Back and not going anywhere.

Let's do a quick recap. Per usual Christmas was fun, mellow and went too fast. We spent the holiday in Colorado with Nick's family. New Years Eve was uneventful. The hubs and I didn't even make it to midnight. However we sipped champagne and watched Narcos on Netflix #winning!

While most americans are setting fitness related new years resolutions I'm just shopping for new gear. Yup, this mama didn't gain any holiday weight and is still eating and working out like normal. Ok, maybe I've stepped up workouts -- the open is in 50 days! WHAT! So back to workout gear since you can never have enough. I swear to never pay full price (unless it's lululemon) so here are a few of the best deals I've found this week -- Target BOGO 50% off, Zella and LUCY! Happy sweating.

If you haven't heard Tahoe is getting hammered with weather from snow to rain and everything in between. NOAA even issued a flood warning for the weekend. Here's Roxy in our backyard earlier this week after the first night of snow!
